Panic at Guanyin Hall

Guanyin Hall

Monks and attendants panic as Wukong arrives, mistaking him for a deity. Sanzang reassures them but warns of Wukong's temper if the stolen cassock isn't recovered.

Journey to Black Wind Mountain

Black Wind Mountain

Wukong overhears the Black Wind King, a Daoist, and a white-robed scholar plotting a 'Festival of the Buddha Robe' with his stolen cassock as centerpiece. He exposes himself, kills the white-robed scholar (a snake spirit), and drives away the Black Wind King and Daoist. Wukong vows to retrieve the cassock at any cost.

Arrival at Black Wind Cave

Black Wind Cave

Wukong demands the return of the cassock from the swarthy demon (Black Wind King), who mocks him. Wukong threatens to destroy the cave if it is refused. They battle until the demon retreats to his cave, refusing further combat. Wukong vows to retrieve the item.

Monastery Report and Preparations

Guanyin Hall

Upon returning, Wukong reports the cassock's location to Sanzang. The monks express relief but are warned not to celebrate prematurely as the threat remains.

Letter of Invitation

Observation Platform Monastery

The Bear Demon sends a formal invitation to the Abbot Jinshi, boasting of his acquisition of a magical Buddha robe and asking him to attend the upcoming festival.

Letter Interception

Black Wind Mountain

Wukong intercepts a demon messenger sent to invite the Abbot. Upon defeating the demon, Wukong confirms the planned 'Festival of the Buddha Robe' and the cassock's presence at Black Wind Cave.

Wukong's Disguise and Entry

Black Wind Cave

Wukong transforms into the Abbot Jinshi to retrieve his stolen cassock, deceiving a young demon who reports his arrival.

Tea and Deception

Black Wind Cave

The disguised Wukong meets the Demon in a lavish courtyard, drinking tea while pretending to seek the cassock as part of his plan.

Battle at the Cave

Black Wind Cave

After Wukong's identity is revealed by a patrol demon, he fights the Demon in an intense battle that moves from the cave to the clouds.

Return to Guanyin Hall

Guanyin Hall

Wukong returns empty-handed after failing to retrieve the cassock, recounting the battle and explaining his evenly matched skill against the Demon. Sanzang and Wukong discuss the black bear spirit's theft of the cassock. Wukong suggests visiting Guanyin at South Sea for help, while Sanzang expresses concern over resolving the issue.

Journey to South Sea

Potalaka Mountain

Wukong arrives at Guanyin's Potalaka and confronts her about the bear spirit. Guanyin rebukes him for past actions but agrees to accompany him.

The Plan Against the Demon

Black Wind Mountain

Wukong and Guanyin kill the gray wolf Daoist, a friend of the Black Bear Spirit. Wukong suggests Guanyin disguise herself as the Daoist and present two pills (one being Wukong) as a birthday gift to the demon.

Ceremony of Deception at the Demon's Cave

Black Wind Cave

Guanyin, disguised as the Gray Wolf Daoist, arrives at the demon’s cave and is welcomed by its minions. She presents a glass tray with two pills as a birthday offering; Wukong is disguised as the larger pill. The Black Bear Demon swallows Wukong, unaware of the trick.

Capture and Mercy

Black Wind Cave

The demon resists but is immobilized by Guanyin’s golden restraining spell. She pardons him and makes him the guardian of Potalaka Mountain. Wukong thanks Guanyin before returning to Sanzang. Guanyin leaves with the now-reformed bear.
