Wujing and the demon engage in combat. After thirty rounds of evenly matched combat, Wujing pretends to flee but the demon refuses to chase him. The demon plans to steam Sanzang and invite his maternal uncle for a birthday feast.

River God's Appeal

The Black River God appears, explaining the demon is an illegal occupant of his domain and nephew to Dragon King. He pleads with Wukong to avenge his grievances against both the demon and the complicit Dragon King.

Wukong travels to Western Ocean, kills a black fish demon carrying an invitation card for Dragon King. The card reveals the demon is his sister's ninth son and plans to serve Sanzang at a birthday feast.

Dragon King's Explanation

Dragon King admits the demon is his sister's nephew who was exiled to Black River. He explains their family history and apologizes for the crime, vowing to address it. After discussions, Wukong pardons him but demands he rescue his captured master.
