Seeking Shelter at Dusk

Little Western Heaven Mountain

After a month of travel, the pilgrims reach late spring. As night approaches, Tripitaka asks about lodging. Wukong jokes about building a hut, while Bajie warns of the dangers in the mountains.

Welcomed in Tuoluo Village

Tuoluo Village

The pilgrims arrive at Tuoluo Village and request shelter. Old Li warns them about the demon haunting Pulpy Persimmon Alley and the Seven Extremes Mountain. After learning of their quest, he welcomes them with a vegetarian feast and asks Wukong to help rid the village of the demon.

Old Li recounts the demon's attacks and the villagers' failed attempts to exorcise it, including the deaths of a monk and a Daoist who tried to defeat the fiend.

A Deal to Defeat the Demon

Tuoluo Village

The villagers offer land as a reward for catching the demon, but Wukong declines material rewards and requests only food for the pilgrims.

The Demon Strikes

Tuoluo Village

A fierce wind signals the demon's arrival, causing villagers to hide. Wukong, Bajie, and Wujing confront the demon, who silently battles Wukong in the air. Bajie joins, noting the demon's technique. The demon only defends and flees at dawn toward Pulpy Persimmon Alley, pursued by Wukong and Bajie.

The Python Demon Unmasked

Mountain of Seven Extremes

The demon reveals its true form as a massive red-scaled python. Wukong and Bajie chase it, but it escapes into a hole. Bajie tries to pull it out and fails. Near a brook, the python swallows Wukong whole.

Wukong’s Triumph Over the Demon

Mountain of Seven Extremes

Inside the python, Wukong forces it to transform into a bridge and a boat before killing it and escaping from its body.

Celebration and Farewell

Mountain of Seven Extremes

The villagers, fearing the worst, rejoice when Wukong and Bajie return with the slain python. Grateful, they thank the pilgrims, host feasts, and gift them dried goods and fruits. The pilgrims are detained for nearly a week by the villagers' hospitality, and over 700 people come to see them off.

Bajie Clears the Alley

Mountain of Seven Extremes

The pilgrims encounter a blocked, foul-smelling road. Old Li and the villagers prepare food for Bajie, who transforms into a giant pig to clear the alley, impressing everyone with his magical abilities.

Villagers Support the Pilgrims

Mountain of Seven Extremes

Villagers hurry to prepare more rice and catch up with the pilgrims by morning, offering additional food as Bajie continues clearing the path.

Journey Continues

Mountain of Seven Extremes

After Bajie eats more rice, the pilgrims thank the villagers and continue their journey. A poem reflects on their progress and the cleansing of Persimmon Alley.
